The Assessment Process
All assessments begin with an interview with parent(s) and/or the client to learn more about the individual’s history and current functioning. Next, the client will participate in several hours of psychometric testing. The amount of testing required is dependent on the referral question. For youth assessments, parent(s) will often be asked to complete checklists to provide information regarding social, emotional and/or behavioral functioning. If consent is provided, teachers can be contacted to gain information regarding functioning within the school setting. In addition, parents and/or clients will be asked to provide past reports and/or report cards for review.
When all data is reviewed, a report will be written, and the client and/or parent(s) will return to the office for a feedback meeting. If requested, and consent forms are signed, the psychologist can meet with school staff to review results.
